Weekend activities can make a big difference to a child’s confidence, fitness and routine. For many families in Stockport, Saturday martial arts classes have become the perfect way to start the weekend on a positive note. Bushido Martial Arts has been teaching students across South Manchester since 1986. These days we are based at Bridgehall Community Centre in Stockport and we are one of the longest running and most trusted clubs in the area.

Whether your child has lots of energy on a Saturday or needs a confidence boost outside the busy school week, our Saturday classes provide a structured, friendly and enjoyable environment to learn Freestyle Karate or Japanese Jiu Jitsu.

Why Saturday Classes Work So Well for Kids

Saturday is a great day for martial arts because children are rested, relaxed and ready to learn. Without the rush of school, homework or weekday pressure, children can enjoy their training fully.

Saturday classes help children:

• Build confidence and self-belief

• Improve balance, coordination and fitness

• Develop discipline and focus

• Learn age-appropriate self-defence skills

• Start the weekend with positive energy

• Make new friends in a supportive setting

Parents tell us that Saturday training helps their children stay active, motivated and confident throughout the weekend.

Separate Mats for Separate Styles

Bushido uses a two mat system, with each mat dedicated to its own martial art. This keeps training structured and safe.

• The Freestyle Karate mat teaches movement, striking, blocks and footwork

• The Japanese Jiu Jitsu mat teaches holds, escapes, groundwork and controlled contact

Children choose the style they want to train in. They commit to either Freestyle Karate or Japanese Jiu Jitsu. They do not train in both. This helps each child build clear foundations and steady progress in the system that suits them best.

Parents appreciate this straightforward structure and the focus it gives their child.

What Happens in a Saturday Class

Saturday sessions are energetic, confidence building and structured. A typical class includes:

• A warm up that boosts agility, balance and fitness

• Focused training on the chosen mat

• Partner drills and safe practice

• Confidence and discipline based activities

• Positive coaching and encouragement

Sessions are friendly and ideal for beginners as well as children with previous experience.

Grading and Saturday Sessions

Our Saturday classes count towards the 48 hours of training needed every 12 weeks for students to be eligible for grading. This gives children clear goals, steady motivation and a strong sense of achievement as they progress through the ranks.
